Homes designed for health and wellbeing on all levels.

Our story

Matthew Tenzin and Joe McGuire met in Aspen in 2008, sitting next to each other at a talk by the Dalai Lama. Matthew had just moved home to Colorado after five years as a Tibetan Buddhist monk. Joe was well-established in Aspen as an interior designer, although he was privately a healer at heart, having studied massage therapy and having taught English at the Dalai Lama’s monastery in India.

In 2012, when the two started designing homes together, they quickly realized they were doing something more than bringing beauty and comfort to spaces. They were creating a palpable sense of peace, balance and enlivenment - shifting the energies of spaces in a way that was felt by their clients.

In the years since, they have undertaken in-depth training in wellness design, energy work and holistic healing with a wish to fully uncover the spiritual and healing potentials of interior design.

Now, through the Home Within Process, they help homeowners, designers and developers tap into a vision of deep wellness for their design projects. Through full-service interior design, as well as energy clearing and wellness design consulting services, they help create spaces that are intentionally designed to support health and wellbeing on all levels.

Our Process

In addition to full-service interior design, we offer the Home Within Process as a consulting service to homeowners, architects and developers who are remodeling, refurnishing or building new homes or wellness spaces. If you are a homeowner, here’s what it looks like:

Working either remotely or in-person, in one full day or several shorter sessions, we will guide you through the Five Levels of Wellness as applied to your home:

1. Spiritual: listening to your land and existing spaces, connecting with higher guidance and your home within, clarifying your personal vision of true wellness, and receiving inspiration for your land, your home and your life.

2. Energetic: reading the subtle energetic patterns of your land and the various areas of your home, then deeply clearing, blessing and reprogramming your home’s energetic fields so that they support your wellness vision.

3. Emotional: assessing which possessions support your happiness and wellbeing and which ones do not, receiving intuitive inspiration for sacred and meaningful objects, imagery, and natural elements that reflect and amplify your soul’s essence and your highest vision of health and wellbeing.

4. Sensory: discovering the keys to your personal style and color palettes, and drawing upon your wellness vision to design beautiful, imaginative and deeply meaningful living spaces that soothe and enliven all of your senses.

5. Physical: selecting healthy and sustainable materials, furnishings and amenities, and creating spatial layouts that support you in maintaining healthy habits and living with maximum alignment, wellbeing and flow.

Why we’re unique

When creating a home, most people approach the Five Levels, whether consciously or not, from the bottom up, working their way from the physical to the spiritual.

They start with the basic function of getting a roof over their heads and making sure it addresses their physical needs.

Once the basic functions of the physical level are in place, they turn their attention to the sensory or aesthetic aspects of the home and begin decorating and filling the spaces with objects and furniture.

Then, once the home looks beautiful, they may tune in to the emotional level of the home and start to ask, “Does this really feel like me? Does it reflect who I am?” And they may look for ways to personalize the space with art, photos and mementos.

After all of this, if it still doesn’t feel quite right, the very last thought may be to smudge the space or bring in a feng shui consultant to try to clear or balance the energy.

In most cases, the most powerful level of the home – the spiritual level of higher guidance, intention and vision – goes unrecognized and unaddressed.

This is what most people are doing: designing their home from the bottom up. And by doing so, they may experience diminishing returns at each step all along the way.

Most people never really tap into the true power of their land and their home to uplevel their health, wellbeing and personal evolution.

Even if they do, it's often too late to apply these higher-level visions and insights to the countless costly aesthetic and functional choices that have already been made.

This is why, if we really wish to create a home imbued with the light and the uniqueness of our essence, a home that fuels our optimal wellness and helps us be who we are truly meant to be in the world, we need to work from the top down and the inside out.

We need to start with the spiritual, energetic and emotional aspects of the home so that we can more easily arrive at innovative sensory and physical solutions that are personally resonant and supportive of all levels of our being.

“Matthew Tenzin has a unique skill-set to enhance and uplift a project. His background in spatial design and energetic healing go beyond what we have experienced working with traditional architects or designers.

Removing blockages and unseen obstacles may sound fantastical but their presence in a project is certifiable. Matthew’s ability to tap into what lies beneath the surface is amazing.

Working with Matthew has proven beneficial to our projects on multiple layers. He is also someone that we all enjoy collaborating with and learning from. ”
