YIDAM - Yoga / Dance / Meditation

YIDAM - Yoga / Dance / Meditation

In this 90-minute Sunday morning class, learn to merge with your guides and move through an exhilarating flow of stretching, dancing and meditating to an ever evolving playlist of sacred tones and uplifting dance music.

Here are a few of the benefits:

  • Relax and stretch in an easy gentle way

  • Feel a deeper connection with higher guidance

  • See and feel things that are ready to be released

  • Feel the energetic support to move them through and let them go

  • Find your body moving more freely in new ways

  • Connect with others in a playful and carefree way

  • Breathe, laugh, sweat, cry and open to joy

  • Melt into to the stillness at the end of a good workout

  • Leave uplifted with newfound energy and vision for your future

For some of the session, we will be wearing “eye curtains” which allow us to see what we are doing without needing to engage in eye-contact. This allows for a more contemplative and inward focus.

If you are not familiar with your own personal guides or helping spirits, don't worry. The class will start with a simple guided practice for connecting with one or more guides, energies or archetypes to work with in the session. Read below for more details.

Here’s a bit more info, from facilitator, Matthew Tenzin:

During covid, in order to clear the stuck energy I was feeling in my body, I started spending occasional mornings doing an intuitive flow of yoga, dance and meditation, which I have come to call Yidam practice.

In Buddhism, your Yidam is your personal meditational deity, a manifestation of enlightened mind that serves as a guide, guardian and point of focus and embodiment on your path. In a wider spiritual sense, I believe we all have guides, angels, helping spirits, power animals, ancestors, and past or future selves that we can call upon and merge with for instantaneous guidance, healing and inspiration.

Here's how the practice goes:

  • Yoga: Starting on a yoga mat, sitting in meditation, connect with higher guidance to clarify your intention and chosen focus for the session (I'll guide you through this!). Then, merging with your guide, allow your body to move through whatever gentle stretches and yoga postures feel nurturing to you, at your own pace.

  • Dance: As the music gradually picks up, transition into free-form dance, allowing your body to be moved by the energy of your guides. It is a powerful experience to discover how the body fluidly and energetically moves in liberating and surprising new ways when merged with a guide, intention or energetic archetype.

  • Meditation: As the music slows again, gradually coming into standing and sitting postures, letting the healing and empowering energy fill you. Then, to the sound of resonant tones, laying down in Shavasana for a relaxing meditation for integrating what you have experienced and receiving guidance and inspiration for the next steps in your day, and on your path.
